About you and the role:

For eCommerce merchants looking to reach new consumers in new markets, international shipping can be a convoluted, rapidly-changing landscape. In a nutshell, the Manager, Finance – International Compliance, will simplify the complex. Passport’s goal is to help brands achieve their global potential, and this is the perfect opportunity for someone who loves seeing retailers, producers, merchants, sellers, makers, manufacturers, vendors, and artists bring their products to a global audience. One way we do that is to make it easier for brands to expand globally without having to establish an overseas entity or engage an expensive tax or accounting firm to help them navigate the requirements. What you’ll do…

  • Own calculating and reporting duty & tax across the organization
  • Review variances and work with necessary teams to bring transparency to issues, determine actions needed, and ensure execution
  • Manage and reconcile necessary VAT filings with relevant governmental bodies and third parties
  • Complete VAT filings in select markets
  • Serve as the financial subject matter expert to internal and external stakeholders on all things duty and tax
  • Ensure end to end data integrity and completeness for all duty and tax transactions
  • Provide monthly reports to Accounting to support close process
  • Help scope, launch, and support new fiscal compliance features, including market expansion, across Passport products in collaboration with engineering, sales, operations, and subject matter experts
  • Work with teams to automate solutions and reporting
  • Document process flows and identify areas for improvement and efficiencies

  • 7+ years work experience in finance, heavily analytical, or fiscal compliance roles
  • You may have a background in consulting/investment banking/fintech
  • Self-motivated and independent yet a strong team player who can work cross-functionally
  • Resourceful – you might not have all the answers, but you know how to find them or who to ask for help
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex problems clearly and concisely to different internal and external audiences (Executives, Marketers, Engineers, Sales People, ICs)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct-to-consumer eCommerce experience
  • Knowledge of indirect taxes: VAT, GST, etc.
  • Familiarity with billing and invoicing systems
  • Cross-border shipping and supply chain industry knowledge
  • Knowledge of customs clearance processes and regulatory requirements 
  • Experience work with large datasets
  • Project Management Professional
